Overview

Stop it Now! Malta is a specialised phone and online chat support service aimed at preventing child sexual abuse and supporting safer, healthier and more fulfilling lives.

This service is for:

  • Adults who are worried about their own sexual thoughts, feelings, or behaviour, including sexual online behaviour involving children
  • Adults who are facing charges and ongoing court proceedings for child sexual abuse or online behaviour involving minors
  • Anyone who is concerned about someone else’s online and offline behaviours towards children.
  • Partners, relatives, friends or anyone else who has found out that someone they know has been arrested, convicted or incarcerated for sexual abuse towards a minor
  • Professionals who work with people at risk of harming children or who are helping offenders change their behaviour

The service is anonymous and confidential. You do not need to provide your name or personal details. Confidentiality will only be breached if there is an imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, including children.

  • Your mental health and self-care
  • How to manage your thoughts, feelings and behaviour to prevent offending or relapse
  • Questions you might have on how to move forward
  • If you are being investigated, how to tell your family, friends, colleagues, and significant others
  • The impact of the police investigation and court proceedings on you and your family
  • The role of child protection services if applicable
  • Information about follow-up services

If someone you know has been convicted or is being investigated for a child sexual offence, you can reach out to get professional advice on the following aspects:

  • Self-care and well-being
  • The impact of your situation on you, your family and significant others
  • How to tell your family and significant others
  • The role of child protection services if applicable
  • Understanding why people offend in this way
  • Other support services available

Take care of yourself!

Feeling overwhelmed, shocked, confused, depressed, angry, afraid, or hopeless in these circumstances is completely normal. You may also experience thoughts of harming yourself.

 

The trained professionals behind these calls and chats are there to listen without judgement, help you make sense of what you are experiencing, and provide expert guidance and support. You do not have to go through this alone.
