The Foundation for Social Welfare Services invites applications for part-time Support Workers. FSWS been allocated funds under the European Social
Fund – ESF+.02.226, to carry out a project which aims to address first-time youth offenders and the risk of their progression into recurrent criminal
behaviour.
This project mainly focus on these principles:
• Giving the necessary tools, policies and programmes to all stakeholders – training a multi-disciplinary team in different parenting modalities and
in working with traumatic and challenging behaviour
• Developing Assessment and personalised plans – For each referreed youth a comprehensive assessment is to be conducted to understand the
individualsed needs and circumstances
• Networking – strenghting the collaboration among social welfare agencies, community police, educational institutions and the drugs tribunal
The Role
Selected candidates will form part of the Second Chance Team, providing structured, practical, and person-centred support to young people aged between 13 and 25 years who are participating in the Second Chance Project.
The Support Worker will play an important role in supporting young people to develop greater independence, strengthen their life skills, build positive relationships and engage constructively within their community. The role is intended to complement the work of the multidisciplinary professionals within the project by providing young people with consistent, practical and positive support in their day-to-day development. The Support Worker will establish a positive and trusting relationship with the young person and under the guidance and supervision of the Second Chance team, support the young person in identifying and working towards personal, social, educational, vocational, and developmental goals. The support provided should be tailored to the individual needs, interests, strengths, and circumstances of each young person.
The role shall be offered on a definite contract until end of September 2028 or for the duration of the project.
The Person
The individuals interested in this role shall be in possession of:
Minimum of 2 O’ levels and 3 years’ experience working in disciplinary forces, educational setting, social field or in a similar setting. Candidates who have direct experience in working with youths will be given preference.

Minimum of 1 A’ level and 1 year experience working in disciplinary forces, educational setting, social field or in a similar setting. Candidates who have direct experience in working with youths will be given preference.
Candidates over twenty one (21) years of age shall be given preference as the job entails working with youths. Candidates must be fluent in Maltese and English to be eligible for an interview. Qualifications and experience claimed must be supported by certificates and/or testimonials. Applicants in possession of a foreign qualification/s are to produce with their application, a recognition statement on comparability of qualifications issued by the Malta Qualification Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC).
