Dr Vella is a Clinical Chair and Consultant with a special interest in addiction medicine, certified by the International Society of Addiction Medicine. She has spent the past 30 years working at the Substance Misuse Outpatients Unit (Sedqa: National Agency for Dependencies). Her clinical expertise lies in the care of pregnant women struggling with substance misuse, as well as women involved in prostitution. Since 2008, she has also worked as a Public Health Specialist and has been a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (Scotland) since 2025. Dr Vella has served as a Visiting Senior Lecturer at the University of Malta for nearly three decades, where she lectures on addiction.
