Svetlana Buttigieg, a warranted senior social worker, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Social Work in 2007 and began her professional career working within Child Protection Services. Driven by a strong commitment to supporting vulnerable children and families, she furthered her studies by obtaining a Master’s degree in Social Work with Children and Families. Her dissertation focused on reflective practice in leadership, reflecting her interest in effective leadership approaches within social services.
Throughout her career, Svetlana has held several leadership and management positions within Agenzija Appogg. She served as Leader of Supportline 179, BeSmartOnline, and the Emergency On-Call Service, overseeing critical support services for individuals and families in need. She later assumed a broader management role, with responsibility for a diverse portfolio of services including the Human Trafficking Team, Intake and Family Support Services, alongside the services she had previously led.
In 2025, Svetlana was appointed Assistant Director at Aġenzija Appoġġ, whilst in 2026 she took on the challenging role of Operations Director within the same agency, where she continues to contribute to the development and strengthening of social support services through strategic leadership, professional expertise, and a strong commitment to service excellence.
