The Position

The Foundation for Social Welfare Services invites applications for the post of Pharmacist to work within the Substance Misuse Out Patient Unit (SMOPU) with Agenzija Sedqa.

The Role

The pharmacist shall be expected to participate in the individual treatment of patients receiving medical care at SMOPU. The selected candidate shall be expected to actively participate in duties relating to the dispensing of medication. The person must make sure that the service is kept at the highest standards, so the service users can receive the best possible treatment in their efforts to address their addictions. The pharmacist shall also support the acquisition, selection and adjudication of medical products, by offering technical expertise that shall support the decisions made in the acquisition process. The selected candidate shall also be required to ensure that the quality of the medication is always up to standard and to make sure that the patients are always given the medication that is prescribed. The pharmacist may also be required to compile reports to the clinical director, or operations director at Agenzija Sedqa, in support of the pursuit of operational targets set out in the yearly plans of the agency.
The chosen candidate shall report to the Leader of SMOPU.

The Persons

Eligible candidates shall possess one of the following:
•  a degree in pharmaceutical studies or M Pharm to be considered for a Gov scale 9 position. The qualification has to be recognised by the pharmacy council of Malta.
•  a degree in pharmaceutical studies or M Pharm coupled with 2 years’ experience to be considered for a Gov scale 8 position. The qualification has to be recognised by the pharmacy council of Malta.
•  a degree in pharmaceutical studies or M Pharm coupled with 6 years’ experience to be considered for a Gov scale 7 position. The qualification has to be recognised by the pharmacy council of Malta.


To be eligible for interview, candidates must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and fluent in Maltese and English. The qualifications and experience stated must be supported by certificates and/or testimonials. Applicants who hold a foreign qualification must submit a Statement of Recognition of Comparability of Qualifications issued by the Malta Qualification Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) with their application. In addition, applicants are requested to submit an updated CV including 2 referees’ contact details and valid police conduct.
