The Position

The Foundation for Social Welfare Services invites applications for the post of full-time Social Welfare Professionals to work in the Supportline 179 and BeSmartOnline within Agenzija Appoġġ.

The Role

A vacancy has arisen within Supportline 179 and BeSmartOnline for the position of Social Welfare Professional, presenting an
opportunity to join a vital national service that provides immediate and confidential support to individuals and families facing crisis or distress. As part of this essential frontline team, the Social Welfare Professional plays a key role in handling a wide range of sensitive and complex issues, including domestic violence, child abuse, mental health challenges, substance misuse, homelessness, and other social difficulties. The role involves actively listening to callers, offering emotional support, carrying out assessments, providing accurate information about available social services, and referring individuals to the appropriate agencies for further assistance. Professionals in this role are also responsible for managing calls received through the EU Emotional Support Helpline 116 123 and the EU Child Helpline 116 111, ensuring that every caller is met with empathy, professionalism, and timely intervention. The position demands strong communication skills, emotional resilience, and a commitment to upholding confidentiality and ethical practice. The selected candidate will form part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to making a real difference in the lives of people in need, working in a fast-paced environment that operates on a 24/7 basis to ensure continuous national support. 

The BeSmartOnline, Malta’s Safer Internet Centre, provides an opportunity to educate children and help them understand how to use technology safely while educating them, their parents, teachers and other professionals about the risks that exist online and how to protect minors from abuse that is carried out online.

The selected candidate will be requested to deliver training, awareness sessions and represent the service in media interventions.

The selected persons shall be directly accountable to the Leader of the service.


The Persons

The individuals interested in this role shall be in possession of a Degree in Humanities (MQF level 6) or a related equivalent
qualification.

 
Candidates must at least eighteen (18) years of age and be fluent in Maltese and English to be eligible for an interview. Qualifications and experience claimed must be supported by certificates and/or testimonials. Applicants in possession of a foreign qualification/s are to produce with their application, a recognition statement on comparability of qualifications issued by the Malta Qualification Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC). In addition, candidates are requested to submit an updated CV including 2 referees’ contact details and a valid police conduct.
