The Position

The Foundation for Social Welfare Services invites applications for the post of full-time Youth Worker to work with the Semi-Secure Centre within the Alternative Care Directorate.

The Role

Selected candidates will be responsible for engaging and supporting minors within a semi-secure residential setting, fostering positive relationships and promoting their personal, social, emotional, and educational development. They will plan, organise, and facilitate structured recreational, educational, and developmental activities aimed at enhancing wellbeing, building resilience, and encouraging positive behaviour and life skills.

The successful applicants will serve as positive role models and provide consistent guidance and support to minors, helping to create and maintain a safe, structured, and nurturing environment. They will be expected to manage and de-escalate challenging situations appropriately, encourage meaningful participation in daily routines and programmes, and support minors in achieving their individual goals and care plan objectives.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, Youth Workers will contribute to care planning, reviews, and assessments, maintain accurate records and reports, and liaise with social workers, educators, therapists, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders. Additional responsibilities include accompanying minors to appointments, educational activities, community outings, and recreational events, while ensuring their safety, wellbeing, and engagement at all times. They will also assist with the day-to-day running of the residential setting and contribute to the development of a positive and therapeutic living environment.

The Persons

Applicants must be in possession of a Minimum of an MQF Level 6 Degree in Youth and Community Studies.


Candidates must be fluent in Maltese and English to be eligible for an interview. Qualifications and experience claimed must be supported by certificates and/or testimonials. Applicants in possession of a foreign qualification/s are to produce with their application, a recognition statement on comparability of qualifications issued by the Malta Qualification Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC). In addition, candidates are requested to submit an updated CV including 2 referees’ contact details and a valid police conduct.
