Domestic Violence Conference 2025 – 30 Years of Għabex

The FSWS hosted its Annual Domestic Violence Conference, an event dedicated to raising awareness and encouraging survivors to take the brave step towards rebuilding their lives.

This year’s conference marked a special milestone – the 25th anniversary of the Għabex Emergency Shelter, which over the years has provided safety, support, and hope to countless women and their children in times of crisis.

The event featured impactful speeches by:
Hon. Dr Michael Falzon, Minister for Social Policy and Children’s Rights; Hon. Ms Rebecca Buttigieg, Parliamentary Secretary for Equality and Reform; Dr Lydia Abela; Dr Davy Simons, Director of the FJC and Board Member of the EFJC; Mr Alfred Grixti, FSWS Chief Executive Officer; Ms Graziella Castillo, Director of Appoġġ

During the conference, Andre, a Risk Assessor within Aġenzija Appoġġ, also launched his debut novel “Kieku Tħobbni, Ma Kontx”, which explores gender-based violence as both a personal and societal issue. Through fiction, the book highlights the hidden realities of abuse and invites readers to reflect on the shared responsibility we all have in addressing and preventing it.

Together, we continue to work towards a society free from violence and fear – one built on dignity, safety, and respect for all.
